Defensoras

An abstract, short documentary about Bolivian female Indigenous defenders who are fighting to protect their ancestral territories and the natural world.

It was filmed alongside a companion project where we ran Participatory Filmmaking workshops with a group of Indigenous women from the native community of San Jose de Uchupiamonas, Madidi National Park, in the Amazon Rainforest.

The film is co-direction with Eilidh Munro and made in collaboration with Bolivian Indigenous rights orgainsation, CONTIOCAP, and international conservation organisation, the IUCN NL.

We would like to say a special thanks to defensoras Ruth Alipaz Cuqui and Paola Gareca for sharing their stories of defiance and resilience with us.
